If you are not willing to root it, (which is SUPER easy) then you just need to use wireless. It can be as safe as you are smart. Connect only to trusted networks and secure your own network(s) with heavy passwords.

You’ll have to root the iconia and install a custom rom that supports the lan adapter. However even after that you’ll need to run scripts each time you want to connect (if you disconnected it prior to reconnecting or powering off). Also its only connected at the kernel level meaning some apps won’t recognize it as connected.

you should change your topic to “android as a internet gateway / proxy". the term “modem” is not appropriate. don’t confuse people who search some string from google.

fyi there are no such thing android device can be bridged by pc to connect to internet via android devices acted as a modem. only some of old mobile phone can.

TO Asthon,
That is just opening the file /etc/udev/rules.d/11-android.rules. And you can modify the rules of android usb. That is a bit further information. Number 3 is to yourself accessing the android device via USB.

In response to: Android Screen Capture

I can on my galaxy s with gingerbread take a screencapture by holding the back button down and then press the homekey. screencapture saves to internal memory under folder “screen capture” no extra app, root or sdk… easy peasy…
excuse my english, im on vacation in denmark atm and beer is cheap.
