Considering to buy an AMD PC
My main PC is around 4 years old now. This is the time to replace it.
I am considering to an AMD PC. This is because AMD dropped the CPU price. AMD Athlon™ 64 5200+AM2 Processor Retail Dual Core AM2 is around AUD$170.
back to basic
I have seen Vista. I really don't like that. The interface is much nicer. I found it uses more resources. I just want a computer to go interface and do some word doc. That's all. Please back to basic.
Documentation is importance too.
I am a opensource programmer. I am looking for some opensource packages for my personal projects. Mainly, they are a new presonal website and a website for my fellowship. They are not some kind of serious projects. But there are some common requirements same as other kinds of commerical projects. Firstly, the packages need to do the tasks I need. Moreover, I need they have some kinds of documentations. Well, you can say they are opensource. I can understand the functions by looking into the codes. But the code is the logic from others people and this kind of task is very time consuming. I really don't want to spend three years just to understand a framework!
Home Server
I read an article about Windows Home Server in APC. This is completely not my choice. I chose Linux. This is free of charge. Moreover, it works with low end computers as well.(Be fair, even I try Windows Home Server, I don't know whether Windows Home Server works well too). For another reason, I am a developer. I can free develop and customize the software in Linux. Most of software in Linux world are open source. Linux, this is my choice.
Don't spend too much!
Today, A friend asked me about broadband and Notebook computer. I suggested her to buy something good enough for her current. I suggested a notebook costs around $1000 and an ADSL plan. There are a tons of choices if she spends more. But I only suggests the middle range products. The technologies are changing so fast. The IT products will be outdated very very soon. Why don't save some money, then she can change a new one later. I have a friend, he always disagree my views on this. He has spent three times more than me to buy a high-end IT products. He said he don't change the products as frequent as me. He said at the end, I spent similar amount of him on IT products. Well, that may be the case. But his IT goods life cycle like this, High-end -> Middle range -> low end-> outdated(he needs to buy a new one). Mine is Middle Range -> Low end, sells it -> Buy a new Middle Range -> Low End, sells it. I can have always middle range.
