I can replace or give away some test boxes after I installed VMWare
I installed VMWare, I started to create some virtual machines as my test box. Some software I am not sure what kind of performance impact to my pc. Normally, I will try to install that into a text box first. But now, I can create a text box within my main pc as an isolated environment by virutalization. In this way, that is more environmental friendly, less pc (Well, only used my old pc as a test box.)Anyway, I can consider to give away some test boxes.
Mandriva is a good choice of Vista Alternative
I have installed VMWare. I have got three Fedora, Ubunta and Mandriva. I found my VM with Mandriva KDE. That is the best. The interface is the most like with Vista. The "Start" button menu structure is very similar and is similar with the user document structure of Vista, such as "Download".
Moreover, the actions are very smooth with 512 MB VM. That is an good option.
Using VMWare Workstation is better than getting an old laptop for test purpose
I have tried to build a linux laptop for my test purpose. No Sucess at all. That seem to be the hard disk of my old laptop not working. Moreover, there are display and screen resolution issues. I can't get fixed. OK. The solutions I got my main PC is quite pwoerful it can handle the virtual machine. Thus, I tried VWMare workstation. That is very good. It is stable. Because that is virtualized, so no problems on drivers. My Ubuntu supports the VWMave virtual hardware!
I bought an ASUS F9S Laptop
I bought an ASUS F9S Laptop. AUD$1495. The price is a fair. The laptop came with two batteries ,mouse and laptop bag. Moreover, it is light and reasonable performance. That is all around fair deal.
Asus F9s
I am looking for a laptop. I don't want a big. Moreover, my price range must be less than $1.5K. I found Asus F9S is the best target as this moment. Light, less than 2Kg, 2Ghz CPU and 2GB ram, that looks ok for me.
